We were traveling to Synod and spent two nights along the banks of the Columbia River in Revelstoke. Its waters were dark and turquoise — fed by rain, melting snow, and glaciers cascading down from the mountains. The water I watched would flow for another month before pouring into the Pacific Ocean, where Washington meets Oregon.
This river is vital to the region. It waters fields and feeds fishermen. Farther downstream it carries ships and marks a boundary. Our own province takes its name from this river, as early settlers traveled up its length into what became British Columbia.
This week, we turn to the first half of the final chapter of Scripture — and there, we find another river. Like the Columbia, the River of God brings life and identity. But unlike the Columbia, its source is the throne of God. It becomes a picture of life as God is making it to be — where there is healing, wholeness, and every deep need is met.
I invite you to spend time with this week’s passage, and then join us—whether in person or online—as we discover this River.
With you in Christ,
Jeremy
